The chesterfield–a sofa first commissioned in the 17th century by Philip Stanhope, fourth Earl of Chesterfield–is by no means a thing of the past. Unlike some old-age furniture which has been deemed antiquated and passé, the chesterfield is having somewhat of a revival and revamp.

Chesterfields are very much a window into the past, conjuring up the golden bygone eras of plush drawing rooms, vast stately libraries and glamorous Great Gatsby-esque cocktail parties. It is evident that designers have continued to embrace the vintage aspects of this iconic piece of furniture, but are now adding modern touches, experimenting with new colours and fabrics.

My favourite chesterfield at the moment is Raft’s Embassy four seater. This design is true to the original, but the grey leather adds a modern touch and compliments any colour scheme. The Regis and Havana armchairs are also the perfect accompaniment to a full size sofa or can be a fun way to add a pop of vintage to a smaller room.

Another great shop to look out for is none other than Distinctive Chesterfields. As the name suggests, chesterfields are their speciality! Here are some of my top picks:

The London Chesterfield sofa, the Hampton Chesterfield sofa, and the Highclere Wing chair.

Delve into the past with your very own chesterfield and add a touch of vintage charm to your home!
