With the festive season already in full swing, I’ve been thinking about how to decorate. Some might say I’ve been a bit slow to get myself sorted, but I’d much rather take my time and find some truly unique ornaments that I’ll use for years to come.

The first place to start is always the wreath. Whether placed on your front door or hung inside, it truly is the must-have decoration. Why not break with tradition and go for a modern design with an industrial edge? Or, opt for an understated eucalyptus number?

With the wreath sorted, it’s time to turn to garlands, baubles and lighting. I love Christmas as much as the next person, but I’m definitely not one for over-the-top displays. A dash of red here and there, I can just about put up with. But there will be no big velvet bows, and the thought of using colours like blue and purple makes me shudder. For me, it’s all about foliage, foliage, foliage…warm metallics and rustic touches.

Whatever your decorating style, be selective and pick ornaments that are meaningful and timeless. One of the best parts of Christmas is remembering where each decoration came from. Whether picked up on travels, or given to you by loved ones, baubles can tell so many different stories and ensure festive memories live on forever.
